Hi Kim I understand your family has taken the European cruise. We will be leaving on one in June 2011. Can you give me some suggestions for Excursions, we have a nine year old.Thanks.

Your family is in for a memorable voyage! Our son was 10 when we sailed and he really enjoyed the ports. We had recently moved so we needed to keep our budget in check. We toured all on our own except for Tunisia which DCL isn't going to this year anyhow.

Malta: we walked into the walled city to see St. John's Co-Cathedral. Be up on deck when you sail into the Grand Harbour!
    Italy -
We took the train to Pompeii. Very simple. Pompeii and Rome were our two favorite sightseeing days.
Rome - took the train into Rome, then metro to Colosseum. Walked to Roman Forum. Metro to Vatican. Toured Vatican. Taxi to Pantheon. Walked to Trevi Fountain. Metro back to Train station. Train back to Civitavecchia.
We did not go to Florence. We took the train to Pisa instead. It was a charming town and the tower is amazing.
By Corsica, we were worn out and spent the day on the ship. In Nice, we just walked around the town although we had planned to go to Monaco. The pace of the first week caught up with us! But it was nice to have some time to enjoy the ship as the cruise is very port-intensive.

Before we went, our family watched documentaries on the places that we wanted to see. We carried cheat sheets of courtesy words in the native languages. We were all able to say "hello", "thank you" and "excuse me" while in the ports.

We explored Barcelona on our own via the metro.

Let me know if you have further questions, I'd be happy to help! Enjoy Mickey in the Med!!
