    Jason from MI Asked

I’m taking a Disney Cruise (the dream) in mid June and I was wondering if the ships use magic bands?

    Ahoy, Jason!

Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question.

I'm a big fan of Walt Disney World Resort's MagicBands. The colorful, comfortable bands really help simplify my Walt Disney World vacations, as they function as my resort room key, park ticket, FastPass+, and PhotoPass. I'm even able to use my MagicBand to make room charges, such as souvenirs and meals. I always carry a backpack or a purse with me (this mom of teens is past the diaper bag days), and it's so nice not to have to rifle through my bag or my pockets to find my credit card or my room key. MagicBand technology has really been a game changer for Walt Disney World Resort vacations!

As of yet, MagicBand technology hasn't been introduced on the Disney Cruise Line ships. When you check in for your cruise at the port, each member of your sailing party will receive a Key to the World Card that will serve as your boarding pass, stateroom key, and shipboard charge card. Disney Cruise Line ships are a cash-free environment - all your purchases can be made using your Key to the World.

If you have children in your sailing party that will be participating in the Youth Clubs on the ship, and will be spending time in the Oceaneer Club and Oceaneer Lab (for ages 3-12), he/she will be issued an armband to wear throughout your cruise. The armbands look just like MagicBands, but are only used for the child to gain entry into the club. On our last cruise, I noticed that the bands had cute pictures of Captain Mickey on them! The bands are available for purchase for a minimal fee, if your child just can't bear to part with it!

Thanks again for cruising by! Have a magical day! - Diane W.
