I am interested in the African Trek in October w my 12 yr old son. What happens at the bridges if he can't cross because he is afraid? Will there be another way for us to continue? Can we go across the bridge together with distance between us

Hi, Brandon! It's always nice to see a fellow Pennsylvanian on the Disney Parks Moms Panel site!

There will be many Guests who will be green as a crocodile with envy when they see you checking in for the Wild Africa Trek at Disney's Animal Kingdom Theme Park. I've had this on my Disney Bucket List since my sister-in-law went several years ago. I was hanging on to every word hearing the retelling of her exhilarating experience.

I have three boys, and like just like your son, one of them is a little apprehensive about heights and all things adventurous. I called and spoke with a Cast Member who has experienced this VIP tour. She and I talked extensively about the bridge- she's had other Guests call with the same concerns. Unfortunately, only one person is allowed on the bridge at a time, but Cast Members are stationed at the beginning and end for assistance and encouragement. Also, keep in mind that all Guests are securely harnessed through the legs, and the straps are checked throughout the journey. Even though his knees will probably be knocking when he approaches it, assure your son that the bridge is not as rickety as it appears. Steel cables are supporting it, and there is heavy duty netting between the gaps in the boards.  No matter how hungry those crocodiles look, you're not going to be their next meal!

Speaking of meals, you're in for quite a treat! While the menu is subject to change, Guests have raved about the tandoori shrimp, chicken curry salad, and sun-dried tomato hummus and pita which is served in a hut overlooking the savanna.

Brandon, even for the risk-averse, I think this experience will be well worth the fears your son may have to overcome. Photographers will be capturing all the action and excitement throughout your adventure, and these images will be the ultimate souvenir for what will be a memorable vacation!

Meet the Panelist: Eean, Pennsylvania

Hi, I'm Eean from Pennsylvania!  I may have an unusual name, but my passion for Disney is not unique.  It’s amazing how many people you can find who love talking about, "The Most Magical Place On Earth!"  I'm that mom who always has her ears perked at PTO meetings, in the grocery store aisle, or at middle school basketball games waiting for an opportunity to give someone a planning tip to help make their vacation even more magical.
