I'm training for a half marathon. Are there any good places to go for a long run at disneyworld?

    Hi Lara:

I never would have run more than a mile at once if it was not for the Walt Disney World Half Marathon that I trained for in 2008 and ran in January 2009 and again in January 2010. There are a number of jogging trails on Walt Disney World property where you can keep up you training:
    • The "Epcot Resorts" (including Yacht Club, Beach Club, and Boardwalk): take your pick from four trails: a one mile pathway along BoardWalk Canal, an 0.8 mile loop around Crescent Lake, a 1.3 mile loop around the Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, or a longer course along Epcot Resorts Boulevard and Buena Vista Drive
    • Animal Kingdom Lodge: 0.16 mile jogging trail around the Uzima pool at Jambo House
    • Grand Floridian: 1.4 mile trail along Seven Seas Lagoon
    • Wilderness Lodge: 1.5 mile running path
    • Polynesian: one mile long trail along Seven Seas Lagoon
    • Fort Wilderness: jogging and bike path
    • Caribbean Beach Resort: paved 1.4 mile path
    • Coronado Springs Resort: 0.9 mile-long loop along Esplanade
    • Port Orleans Riverside: 0.7 mile jogging trail along Sassagoula River
    • Old Key West: 1.5 mile trail
    • All-Star Sports: one mile long paved trail

If your resort is not listed above, when checking into your resort, ask the concierge if there are safe places near or around the resort to jog. For example, even though there is not a dedicated jogging trail at Saratoga Springs, I've seen runners run along the Resort's expansive pathways during non-busy early-morning hours. Also, if a treadmill will suffice, most Disney Deluxe Resorts have fitness centers.

I encourage you to (1) stay hydrated, and (2) return to Disney to run in one of their world-class races.

    Enjoy your vacation.
