I'm thinking about surprising my kids with a Disney vacation beginning of January (around January 3-5). I've never been to Disneyland at this time so can you tell me what the crowds are like right after the holidays?

Hi, Annette! Thanks for stopping by the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question!

I am thrilled that you are planning a vacation to the Disneyland Resort next January! A visit early in the month may allow you to catch the final days of the Holidays which means sparkling holiday decor adorning nearly every nook and cranny. Keep your eye on the Disney Parks Blog in the coming months for the official dates and information.

As far as crowds go, I think you will probably experience residual heavy crowds from the Christmas/New Year's holidays. Additionally, since a lot of school districts will probably not have started up again during your travel dates, there could be lots of families squeezing in Disney magic before school starts. But don't fret! With some planning, you can navigate the parks like a pro no matter the level of crowds. First, get to the parks as early as you can and utilize any early admission options you have available. Then make efficient use of the Disney FASTPASS Service and consider upgrading to Disney MaxPass. FASTPASSES will save your family oodles of time by not having to wait in long queues, and MaxPass takes that one step further by allowing you to obtain FASTPASSES on the Disneyland app from anywhere in the parks. Finally, when the crowds swell in the afternoons, use that time to head back to the hotel for a rest, or check out some of the amazing entertainment options like Mickey and the Magical Map or Frozen - Live at the Hyperion.

I hope you have a truly magnificent time at the Happiest Place on Earth!
