I'm taking my niece to Disney World for the 1st time January 2-8 2019. She is 6 yrs old and we will be staying at Pop Century. Is there anything neat going on I should keep my eyes open for? I have been but never with a child. Thanks, Planning in Texas

    Hi Jaime,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! What a wonderful aunt you are!

Certainly, you want to make a few advanced dining reservations with character meals. My girls love Cinderella's Royal Table, Chef Mickey's, 1900 Park Fare, Hollywood & Vine and Akershus Royal Banquet Hall. When my girls were about the same age as your niece, they enjoyed taking their autograph books and giving big hugs to all of the characters. Since you are staying at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel, you can make dining reservations 180 days prior to your stay. Also, make Fast Pass+ selections for attractions 60 days prior to your visit. Check the Attractions List to see which experiences your niece might really want to do.

I would also check to see if you have a Jedi recruit with you. If your niece seems drawn towards wielding a lightsaber, sign her up for Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple. To make sure we get a training spot, we always make an advanced dining reservation at Hollywood & Vine on a day that the park does not have early morning Extra Magic Hours so that we can enter the park early. If there are early morning Extra Magic Hours, just get to the park as early as you can. If you can get a reservation between 8:00 a.m. and 8:15 a.m., you should be able to hustle over to the sign-up location before breakfast, secure her training spot and then head to breakfast. Just be sure to have her with you to sign-up!

Jaime, I trust your trip will come filled with pixie dust!

Magic, memories and Minnie Mouse hugs,
