I'm a single Dad, with primary parental sharing time, college student, and a USMC combat veteran (non-retired). What is the best route for tickets to Disney and Hotel stay for 2 days? (Yes, cost saving advice is appreciated) Thank you :)

Hi there, John! First, thank you very much for your service and your family's sacrifice. As a Navy wife, I know the kind of commitment that you made.

Walt Disney World is a great vacation destination, and even though it's not a Disney resort hotel, Shades of Green offers many of the same perks of staying at a Disney resort. For honorably discharged military veterans who have not retired, Shades of Green offers their resort for dates in January and September. The rooms there are generously sized, equivalent to the size of a deluxe room at a Walt Disney World hotel, and the rates are really reasonable. You will need your DD-214 to check in at Shades of Green if you book a room during the special offer months.

Your closest military base should have a Moral Welfare and Recreation Information Ticket and Travel Office. There is a discounted ticket offered through those offices for military veterans. The discount isn't huge, but it's a help. If your nearest base is too far or if they don't have one, Camp Pendleton sells the tickets by phone, and they will FedEx them to you. Not all bases stock these tickets all the time, so you'll wnat to call ahead of time and see if they have them or how long it will take to get them. Camp Pendleton usually takes two weeks to get tickets to you.

Don't forget to link your tickets in your My Disney Experience account (and set up an account if you don't have one!). That will allow you to make FastPass+ selections in advance of your trip.

Have a great vacation, John! Thank you so much for your question.
