Hi Moms!! I'm planning a trip to WDW in January 2015 for my boyfriend and I. I was wondering if ya'll could give me an idea of the weather and crowd volume around that time and any other pointers for first timers?? Thanks

    Hi Tabitha,

Thanks for stopping by with your planning question. It's great to see you already starting your planning for 2015. The earlier you start, hopefully the less stressful it will be.

Traveling in January is actually a fantastic time to go. The crowds are considerably lower as many have just traveled for the holidays and it is before the rush of Spring Break. The crowds will increase slightly for the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend. This is usually held in the first couple weeks of January, but the date has not been announced for 2015 yet. So, just keep an eye out for that date.

The weather is typically very mild with average highs in the low 70s and lows in the 50s. The evenings can be quite chilly, so be sure to pack for layering.

One of my biggest tips for first timers is to not over plan. You obviously want to go in with some sort of plan and a possible list of 3-4 must-dos and then just work around that. These must-dos can be attractions, dining experiences, characters, etc that you don't want to leave without seeing or doing. Get a good guide book such as Birnbaum Guide for Walt Disney World (official guide) or the Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World. The newest editions for the following year typically come out in the fall. Use these guides to aid in the planning of your resort, length of stay, budget, and dining. Of course, you can always stop back here with more questions, too! Since you seem to be on top of the planning, don't forget to book your dining as early as possible. Reservations for dining will open up 180 days from your stay and many popular places can book up quickly and you don't want to miss out on a character meal or fun dining location.

Most of all, have fun and don't stress. Remember to take in those small unexpected moments that are often unplanned but just as, if not more, magical!
