Hi Moms! I'm planning our next Disney trip to ring in the new year. I will be traveling with my wife and 8 year old daughter. What's the best thing to do NYE with an 8 year old, but will still allow the wife and I to have champagne at midnight? Thanks (:3

Hi Christopher! It is great you are planning your trip a year in advance as this is a time in the parks that is busy and one needs to be on top of getting dining reservations booked at the first possible date.

Although you are not able to walk around and purchase champagne and alcohol in the Magic Kingdom as you can in Epcot on New Years Eve, this is still a great park choice to ring in the new year for your eight year old and yourselves. It will have a family atmosphere the entire day and night with added entertainment along with the normal parades.  There will be dance parties in several locations and of course the attractions will be open for business as usual. Just be aware no matter what park you choose it will be extremely crowded on this evening and you must watch the levels during the day. Once a park hits capacity even resort guests will not be allowed in. It is best to go early and plan for a long day.

In the past they have offered a wonderful Dessert Party that offers a delicious buffet of sweets and included a non-alcoholic bubbly to toast in the New Year. The cost for this has been about $40 for adults and $22 for children up to 9 years of age.

Epcot will have lots going on as well but it will be an older crowd. The alcohol will be flowing freely in this park especially in the World Showcase end and it is a place I only recommend older children be to toast in the new year.

I find that it is a night of compromise when you have younger children and visiting the parks on New Years Eve.  We have celebrated the midnight festivities with the children and then toasted to ourselves when we returned back to our resort room. Everyone stays happy and safe!
