    Laura Asked

I'm planning our first trip to DL for this fall. If I know I am going to plan one character meal, is the best way to go buying the Character Meal voucher? Does it save a little money? Thanks!

    Hi there Laura,

The Disneyland Dining Plan really just serves as a method of convenience rather than one of savings. The voucher system enables you to prepay for your meals (which can be helpful with planning and budgeting) and the voucher amounts are near equal to the cost of the meals, so it's pretty much face value.  Anything over the dollar amount of the voucher will need to be paid out of pocket.

For example, the character meal voucher has a value of $33.00 which will be applied toward your meal. Most character meals, especially breakfasts, will fall within this price range after tax.  For dinner character meals or those with a price that is greater than $33.00, you will need to purchase a Premium Character Dining Voucher which has a value of $40. or you can just opt to pay the difference out of pocket.

To sum it up and clarify this, basically, the Dining Vouchers serve as a way to prepay your meals and to avoid having to use cash or credit to pay for those  meals.  There really isn't any frugal benefit since the vouchers have a value that is equal to the amount they cost.  Also, if your meal is less than the voucher amount, you will not receive change.  I find it easier to pay out of pocket.

    Best Wishes,
