Star Wars Race

Hi! I’m planning on doing the Star Wars challenge this April. Do you have any suggestions on how to rest after spending the day at the park before the race?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel, Ann! I ran the inaugural Star Wars Dark Side Marathon races with my husband and brother just a few year back, and it was a ton of intergalactic fun! For us, it was a “race-cation” with running as well as park-going. We had lots to do and it was important we didn’t tire out.

I highly recommend waking up early in the morning for a grab-n-go breakfast and heading to the Parks. Try getting ready and making it out to your favorite Park for rope-drop or a welcome show. This early wake up will prime your system for the early bus ride and starting line on race day, while getting you some Extra Magic Hours in the meantime. Enjoy your day as you normally would, using FastPass+ and making sure to stay very well hydrated. I prefer to make an early dinner reservation, around 5 or 5:30pm and then head to bed early. I bring my melatonin along to sleep well for the night before waking up around 3 or 3:30 to don my racing gear and get to the starting line. Remember to stretch, ice and walk after your races to work your legs and properly train for your distances. Instead of Parks time in the afternoon before dinner, you can always enjoy your patio or pool deck with a cool drink in the afternoons for an easy taper of activities. Of course, while at Walt Disney World Resort it’s hard to sit still with so much to do, but if you can take the afternoon and evening easy with an early bedtime, your body will thank you! After the race, head back for a warm shower and food before heading back out to the parks. If you are doing multiple races, rinse and repeat this schedule as necessary.

I hope you have a powerful run, and may the Force Be With You! Should you need more help, Padawan, please let me know. Ready for the Race, you are.  ~ Lindsey P.
