I'm getting ready for my second cruise with DCL, and one of our stops is in Grand Cayman. How much time should I allow for tendering to and from port without worrying? Thanks!

    Ahoy, Bonnie!

Your second cruise is just a few weeks away! I know you can hardly wait to cast off on your Western Caribbean sailing on the Disney Magic. The warm weather is definitely calling your name!

Grand Cayman has always been one of my favorite Western Caribbean ports of call. The beaches are absolutely gorgeous, and there are some fabulous Port Adventures offered at Stingray City. It differs from other ports of call because you are required to use a tender service when heading over to the island. Disney Cruise Line will provide you with very specific instructions on tendering via a letter in your stateroom. I recommend reading over the details carefully so you are informed on what to expect.

If you have a Port Adventure booked through Disney, you'll meet onboard and head ashore together. If you will be venturing out on your own, you do need to keep in mind that the wait to get off the ship will be a bit longer for the first couple of hours in port. Disney Cruise Line's number one concern is safety so Guests wanting to go ashore during those hours will be asked to go to the Walt Disney Theatre to receive a "Tender Ticket" and will wait until their ticket is called to disembark. Once the crowds have thinned out, the ship will make an announcement, and Guests can bypass the Walt Disney Theatre for the gangway. Again, all of this information will be in the letter your stateroom host/hostess will leave in your cabin. If you are in that early group, you can plan on about 30-40 minutes from your arrival in the theatre until you are on the island. Later on, you can plan on around 15-20 minutes.

What you'll want to pay very close attention to is the "Last Tender Time." This is when you'll want to give yourself extra time because waits will be longer to get back on the ship.

Thank you for stopping by, Bonnie!
