Hello I'm going to Disney World January 2013 first time visit with the family. I'm a Disabled Vet, and I have problem with longer periods of standing with my bad knees? What do yo recommend to make my 1st visit more enjoyable for me, and my family? Thanks!

Hi Scott! I am so excited you will be coming to Walt Disney World for your first visit in January. It is right around the corner and will be here before you know it.

If you are comfortable with some walking then I suggest you consider renting a wheel chair at each park. They are available at the entrances and can be used for the entire day in that particular park where you rent it. You can rent a regular chair for the rate of $12 a day or an ECV (electric) for $50 a day. You can ask about the length of stay rentals as well. There is a limited quantity so for the days you might be heading to a park in the afternoon you risk not having one available.

I suggest using the park rental chairs if possible so you are not trying to get one on and off the Disney buses. It can be a hassle and take extra time. If you feel you will need one at your resort then your best bet is to rent from an outside company who can drop off and deliver what you need directly to your resort.

When you enter a park I also suggest you take the time and stop in at the Guest Relations desk. Ask them for suggestions for attractions where the wait lines are long and what to do about getting on and off an attraction with or without a chair. They will be glad to go over all the attractions for you so you can plan on when to use a chair and when not to. What is important is that you be comfortable and be able to stay in the parks as long as possible to enjoy them with your family. Disney cast members will be glad to help you in all ways to make it a magical vacation!
