My husband's last wish was for me to take the kids to Disney World. We are scheduled to come 7/26-8/2/11. The boys are 10 and 8. This will be our 4th trip to Disney in the last 6 years. Any suggestions to make this a "special" trip?

    Dear Patricia,

Let me just start my response by expressing my deepest sympathy to you and your sons on the loss of your husband.  The entire Moms Panel is sending hugs, pixie dust, and warm wishes your way.

It sounds as if you had several opportunities to travel with your sons and husband to Disney World before his passing.  You must have amazing memories of your time there with him.  To me, that's one of the most magical parts of Disney vacations--the memories we create with our loved ones. Let me share some suggestions for activities you can enjoy with your sons this summer in the hopes of adding to your family's treasure trove of vacation memories.

    1.  My 11-year-old son loved Summit Plummet and all the other thrilling rides at Disney's Blizzard Beach.  Take your boys to a Disney water park and try something new and exhilarating together.  Your sons will be impressed with your courage.
    2.  Ride the roller coasters at Disney's Hollywood Studios with them over and over again at the end of a fun park day.
    3.  Take them fishing on Bay Lake.  My son did this when he was 8 and it was the highlight of his trip.  You don't have to know how to fish.  The cast members leading this adventure will show you and the boys everything you need to know about catching (and releasing) fish.
    4.  Reserve a Wishes cruise to watch the fireworks above Cinderella castle.  This is a truly magical and memorable experience for families.  You can book this experience and the fishing trip by calling (407) WDW-PLAY.

This first trip back to Walt Disney World without your husband may be bittersweet, but as long as you and your sons are willing to speak freely with each other about your feelings I imagine it will be a powerful part of the healing process for all of you.

Wishing you many blessings and magical memories,
    Jill
