My husband's company is arranging and paying for our Disney resort hotel room, but we have to buy our own park tickets. Can we buy a dining plan separately as hotel guests, or would that have to be done when the room is reserved?

    Hi Carrie!

I'm so excited to hear that you are getting ready for a magical Walt Disney World Resort vacation and it's quite a treat that your husband's company will be reserving and paying for your Disney Resort hotel room! There are so many awesome amenities that you will enjoy when you stay at one of the Disney Resort hotels, including complimentary transportation on Disney's Magical Express, complimentary MagicBands, access to FastPass+ reservations 60 days in advance, access to Extra Magic Hours and so much more!

The Disney dining plans are a great way to pay for a majority of your vacation dining expenses in advance of your trip. Unfortunately, dining plans can only be added to your vacation if they are part of a vacation package and in order to add it to your hotel reservation, your entire reservation must be canceled and rebooked as a vacation package, rather than a room-only reservation. I actually just went through this process earlier in the week and to make the change, our original deposit had to be refunded and the vacation package became an entirely new booking, including a new confirmation number. So while you can update a room-only reservation to be a vacation package that includes a dining plan, unfortunately, it's not possible to add the dining plan without canceling and rebooking your reservation.

I have enjoyed many Walt Disney World Resort vacations both with and without a dining plan and we have had incredible trips both ways. Keep in mind that as a Disney Resort hotel Guest, you will be able to use your complimentary MagicBands to make purchases that will be charged to your hotel room folio and this is my preferred way to pay for all of our vacation meals. So even if you aren't on a dining plan, paying for all of your meals will still be as simple as the touch of your MagicBand!

Let us know if we can answer any additional questions as you continue planning. T-T-F-N, ta ta for now!
