My husband is a type 1 Diabetic and I want to know if Disney will allow us to take in our own food into the park? Also, what is the best way for him to hold his medicine without any trouble? Thanks

    Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!  Thanks so much for stopping by with your question!

My brother is also a Type 1 diabetic, and has been since we were just kids, and having traveled with him for many years, I completely understand the importance of planning ahead for both meals and medication.  I'm happy to tell you that you are welcome to take a small cooler with your own food and medications into the theme parks with you when you visit.  Common items to take in those coolers include bottled beverages, fruit and snacks, but you can take almost anything you think would be helpful for your husband.  There are some basic rules about what is (and is not) allowed, but the main points to remember are: no glass containers, no alcoholic beverages and your cooler cannot be larger than 24" x 15" x 18" in size.

If you'd like to store your cooler with your medication, you can do so in a locker or at Guest Relations. Each of the parks also has a First Aid center, where medication can usually be refrigerated, if needed.

Your cooler and other bags will be checked before entering the parks, so just be sure to inform the security Cast Member who is checking your bags in advance that someone in your group has a medical issue that requires medication and/or other necessary items.

I've also noticed many more healthy snack and meal options available in the parks in recent years.  You can do a little advance planning by reviewing the restaurant options and menu items on the Dining page.

Wishing you an absolutely magical vacation, Jennifer!  Please let us know if we can help answer any other questions as you make your plans.
