Me, my husband and our six-year-old daughter are coming to Disneyland in January for our first time. I don't know where to start! What kind of passes should we have? And is Disney Adventure Park part of Disneyland or a totally separate location?

Hiya, Tamzin, and thanks for bringing your question to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! I’m so excited to help you plan your first visit to the Happiest Place on Earth this January! You’re going to make so many special memories with your family.

First, if you haven’t booked a hotel yet, I recommend checking out the Disneyland Resort Hotels, including Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa, the Disneyland Hotel, and Disney’s Paradise Pier Hotel. Each hotel has its own distinct style and personality, and my favorites are the Grand Californian and the Disneyland Hotel! When it comes to park access, the Grand Californian is your best bet, since your room is just minutes from an exclusive entry into Disney California Adventure Park!

As for park tickets, I recommend purchasing at least 3- or 4-Day Park Hopper Tickets if it works with your schedule. This will allow you time to check out both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park, without feeling rushed. Luckily, both parks are a short walk across The Esplanade from each other – in fact, you can walk from one entrance to the other in just a few minutes! This proximity is the main reason I suggest purchasing Park Hopper Tickets, since you can easily move back and forth between both parks throughout your Disney days, depending on showtimes and available Disney FASTPASS selections. I also recommend adding Disney MaxPass to your tickets, which can be done during your online ticket purchase, or on a daily basis through the Disneyland app. MaxPass is my favorite handy helper in the parks, since it allows you to make FASTPASS selections from the convenience of your phone, which makes park hopping so much easier! MaxPass also includes unlimited digital downloads of your Disney PhotoPass photos, which is the perfect way to preserve your magical memories!

I recommend downloading the Disneyland app before your arrival, so you can start mapping out your magical plans ahead of time. The app can be used to make dining reservations up to 60 days before your arrival. Once inside the parks, use the app to find favorite Characters, check wait times, and even mobile order food and drinks ahead of time!

Last but not least, don’t forget to ask a Cast Member for a complimentary “1st Visit!” button for your family upon arrival int the parks – this is a great souvenir to remember your first Disneyland Resort experience by!

Please stop by with any additional questions you may have as you continue planning your dream Disney getaway!

Meet the Panelist: Kristin, California

Hello from sunny California! I currently live less than an hour from the Disneyland Resort, and have been an Annual Passholder for about 20 years! As a mom of three kids under the age of 7, I consider myself an expert at navigating the Disneyland Resort with little ones. My family of five can’t get enough of the magic and happiness we encounter every time we step foot on Main Street, U.S.A. I look forward to sprinkling pixie dust on your next visit to “The Happiest Place on Earth!”
