My husband and I are planning a vacation in Feb, I am a cancer survivor, and I am not sure how strong I am. does Disney provide any help or ideas for people like me. I am worried about all the walking. Thank you

There can be quite a lot of walking involved in a WDW vacation, both in the theme parks and, depending on where you're staying, at your resort. If extensive walking is difficult for you, the best way cope might be to rent a wheelchair or ECV.

As a first step, I would go to the website allearsnet.com. Click on the search button (near the top right) and search for an article called "Wheelchair/Scooter/Electric Convenience Vehicle (ECV) FAQ." This will give you some good basic information on the mobility assistance situation at Disney World.

If the Disney option does not seem right for you, there are many private companies that rent wheelchairs and ECVs in the Orlando area. Most will pick up and deliver right to your hotel. I personally do not have any experience with any particular company, so I can't make a specific recommendation. However, I will tell you that many of the non-Disney scooters I've seen in the parks are from Buena Vista Scoot Rentals (buenavistascooter.com). That's probably a good place to start your investigation. Then if you Google "Disney wheelchair rental" you'll find many more options.

There is an informative brochure available from the Guest Relations office at each of the theme parks that gives information about how to access each ride from a wheelchair or ECV. Another resource you should look for is a book called PassPorter's Open Mouse for Walt Disney World. This is the definitive guide for anyone visiting WDW with any sort of physical issue. The potential challenges with each attraction are described in great detail. You can get this book at Amazon.com or from major booksellers.

I hope you and your husband both have a lovely trip to WDW.
