My husband and I are planning a trip to WDW in January. We are able to go either the week of the marathon or the week of Martin luther king day which do you think will be the better choice and less crowded?

Hi Christine! There are many things to consider when choosing between these two January times. Marathon weekend has grown so much in the past few years. Many runners are now bringing families and extended families. My concern with this weekend is not so much the crowds but it is with trying to get around the property. Certain routes are closed and buses getting to parks are diverted making the trips take longer and more crowded.

I would prefer a more normal experience if I was not involved with the marathon. Martin Luther King weekend will draw more guests to the parks especially from the local towns and cities but the parks should never be horrendously crazy with crowds. Predicting numbers is the hardest part of planning for a Disney vacation as year to year can change so much. Just be diligent with the planning and make sure you have dining reservations as well as know the parks and the location of the attractions you wish to enjoy.  All of your pre work will pay off handsomely when you are enjoying everything that is available to you while other guests are still looking at their maps on Main Street!
