My husband and I are planning a trip in September. This is the first time I've planned the trip myself so I'm a little nervous. We want to stay at the AKL, but have heard some bad things about it. What is the actual travel time to the parks from AKL?

    Chelsea,

During my first trip to WDW as an adult, my husband and I stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and fell in love with it.  The resort is breath taking inside and out.  If your room has a safari view you will be able to watch a wide array of animals right from your balcony.  If you don't have the view from your room, you can easily watch them from any one of the many overlooks throughout the resort.  There are also walking trails that bring you to some outside overlooks.

The restaurants are wonderful and Boma has the best coffee in all of WDW.  The buffet breakfast is less expensive than those with characters, but the food is much better.  The eggs are fresh and fluffy as opposed to some of the heavier, greasy eggs you sometimes find in WDW.

When traveling to a park other than Animal Kingdom, I would estimate that it adds 10 minutes to each leg of your trip.  So much of WDW transportation comes down to luck.  No matter where you are, if you happen to just miss a particular bus you need to wait 10 minutes or so for the next one.  Since the Animal Kingdom Lodge is further, the wait times are a few minutes longer and then the trip itself is another few minutes longer.

Overall, its well worth it if you are going to appreciate the resort and spend time at it.  I have spoken with many families this year about resorts.  I was surprised how many didn't care that much about which resort they stayed at.  For them its all about the theme parks.  My family is quite the opposite.  When I think of WDW, I think about a great resort vacation that also has some theme parks close by.  I love the restaurants, spas, pools, and the overall atmosphere.  I'm also not bothered by traveling an extra 20 minutes while on vacation.

I hope you found the advice helpful.  Enjoy your trip.

Asante Sana (many thanks) to everyone who has used this forum,

    Michelle
