My husband and I would like to take our five year old granddaughter to Disney in the month of May next year. Is the park overly crowded at that time of year?

    Hi Ann,

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! What an exciting trip to plan with your granddaughter!

Since we took our girls on their first Walt Disney World trip when they were 5-years old and we visited in May, I think that age is truly magical. The parks were crowded but not unbearably so and, since we intentionally planned to move at a slower pace, we did just fine! There are unofficial crowd calendars that you can check online - Undercover Tourist is one I have used in the past.

If you plan well, she will have a wonderful time regardless of the crowds. There are a few planning tips that will make your visit a little easier. First, we always stay at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel. Even if you can only stay for one or two nights, you will receive the benefits of being a resort hotel guest. These include being able to make Fast Pass+ selections for rides and attractions 60 days in advance of your trip, being able to make dining reservations 180 days in advance (for the length of your stay up to 10 days) and having access to Extra Magic Hours.

We use dining reservations to see our girls' favorite Disney Princesses at the Walt Disney World Resort. Some of our favorite character meals are Cinderella's Royal Table, Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, Cinderella's Happily Ever After Dinner at 1900 Park Fare, The Crystal Palace and Chef Mickey's.

Ann, at 5-years old, she can chat with her princess friends and save the galaxy from the Dark Side in Jedi Training - Trials of the Temple!

May the Force be with you as you plan!
