My husband and I would like to enjoy a romantic dinner by ourselves during a future trip. Do any of the resorts offer childcare or programs for kids?

    Hi Amy,

There are two types of sitting at WDW: the childcare centers and in-room sitting. In several of the deluxe resorts there are childcare centers that are staffed in the evenings (generally from 4:30 p.m. until midnight). Children ages 4 to 12 are accepted here. There are always at least two adults present in the room. You are given a beeper and they will take your cell phone number. There are other children there for your kids to play with. The centers have games, crafts, books, and movies. They will also serve your children dinner, which you select from a limited menu. I have left my children at the childcare centers at the Wilderness Lodge and the Beach Club several times, mostly because they saw the centers at the hotel and BEGGED to go there. They made friends with kids from other countries, played some cool games, and left with big sleepy smiles on their faces. Many of the other moms on the Panel have used the childcare centers at other hotels. Reservations for the centers can be made through Disney Dining at 407-WDW-DINE. You do not need to be staying at that hotel to use the childcare center. There is an hourly fee for this service.

A different option would be in-room sitting. Disney itself does not provide the sitters, but rather contracts the sitting out to a few very reputable agencies including Kids Nite Out (407-828-0920) and Fairy Godmothers. Typically, the sitters will bring some art supplies and books to entertain the kids and will put them to bed for you. They will watch much younger children and in some cases, special needs children. You need to contact these agencies separately to arrange for sitting. I have never used these services myself, but many people do and love that the children will be asleep when they return from their "date night."
