Hi! My husband and daughter (who will be turning 6 while at Disney) will be traveling to Disney April 7-11. We would like to do a few breakfast and dinners with characters. Wondering if you had to make reservations or if you could go at anytime?

    Hi Traci,

Thanks for visiting the Disney Parks Moms Panel with your question!

While reservations are not necessarily required for character dining at Walt Disney World resort, they are highly recommended.  While it is possible that you could walk up to a restaurant with a character meal and that restaurant could have availability for you, the character meals are so popular that I wouldn't take that chance.  I think that you should go ahead and make some reservations for character meals ahead of time so that you won't be disappointed.  You are traveling at a fairly popular time of year, which suggests even more strongly that making a reservation is a good idea.  You can make a reservation for a character meal by calling 407-WDW-DINE (407-939-3463) or online on the Disney dining reservation website.

There are so many great options for character dining at Walt Disney World.  My young daughter really enjoyed meeting the princesses at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall in Epcot, and meeting Donald and Daisy Duck in their safari gear at Tusker House in Disney's Animal Kingdom.  If you would like to experience character dining outside of the theme parks, we have very much enjoyed seeing Minnie and Goofy in their beach outfits at Cape May Cafe at Disney's Beach Club Resort, and you can't go wrong with the classic Chef Mickey's at Disney's Contemporary Resort, where you may meet Mickey and his friends in chef garb.  Please do be aware that all characters at dining locations are subject to change.

Wherever you decide to dine, I do urge you to go ahead and make those reservations, Traci, to help avoid disappointment on your trip.  Have a wonderful time planning, and please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions!
