My husband, daughter , three yr old grandson and myself will be visiting wdw the first time in 2011. My question is we will be staying at the cbr and my husband is disabled,is it easy to get around with a scooter.

    Mary:

My dad is a paraplegic, so I tend to notice things like the width of doors for wheelchair access along with elevators.  I'm sure you have developed the same instinct.

You'll find that Disney World is one of the best vacation destinations for those with limited mobility.  From its resorts to the restaurants, rides to bus transportation, it strives to accommodate those in chairs and ECVs.  What you'll find at Caribbean Beach Resort is a flat terrain with wide sidewalks, easily navigated. But if you don't have a preferred room, you could find the "walk" to your room longer than you'd like.  Also, keep in mind there are no elevators to access higher floors of the individual resort buildings.  You've probably already done this, but make sure that your husband's need for a scooter is noted on your reservation with a request for a first-floor room.

If memory serves me correctly, the food court is similar to other resorts in that you may need to make a pathway for the scooter and your husband, but nothing that can't be overcome by pushing up a chair or two.

FYI: there's a forum at www.disboards.com for disabled Disney fans. Some guests leave specific room numbers which work better than others. I recommend checking it out.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
