My husband and I will be bringing our 5yr old and our 6month old to Disney next summer. How will the swap pass work for us? Can one of us ride something with our 5yr old and then swap and the other parent ride with him again?

The "Baby Swap" officially known as the Rider Switch Pass is best explained by Disney Mom Michelle in her video.

A family that has a child that is too small to ride can take advantage of this option. Basically it allows both parents to enjoy the attraction without having to wait in the stand-by line twice. Older children can ride with both parents as you suggested.
