My husband and I will be bringing our son to WDW for his 5th birthday in February and staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge. I want to make his birthday one he will never forget with dining with Mickey. Any suggestions on the best way to accomplish this?

    Hi Jennifer:

Happy Birthday to your son. A trip to Disney is a wonderful way to celebrate and something he will likely never forget.

I just happen to be answering your question from the Animal Kingdom Lodge, where I'm staying with my family. Your son will love seeing the animals and taking part in the fun activities set up for kids at the resort.  One of the events we are celebrating this trip is my eldest son's 4th birthday, and dining with Mickey on this trip is a priority.

We find the best way to dine with Mickey is to make an advance dining reservation at Chef Mickey's at the Contemporary Resort, featuring an all-you-can-eat buffet. Although characters may be subject to change, we have also dined with Mickey, along with Pluto, Lilo, and Stitch at 'Ohana's Best Friends Breakfast at 'Ohana's at the Polynesian Resort. We've also seen Mickey at Garden Grill Character Dining at Epcot, which features a family-style lunch and dinner hosted by Chip 'n' Dale and other friends. Advance Dining Reservations can be made online here, or by calling 407-WDW-DINE.

Remember to check in at City Hall at the Magic Kingdom, or at guest relations at other parks, and pick up a birthday button. Many Cast Members will go out of their way to wish your son a Happy Birthday or greet him with a kind gesture to make the day more memorable.

You also may consider contacting the Dream Makers at Disney Floral and Gifts online here or at (407) WDW-GIFT or (407) 939-4438. If you are staying at a Disney Resort, they can help create a personalized in-room celebration featuring your son's favorite Disney characters, including Mickey. They can also deliver personalized gift baskets to your Disney resort or a Disney restaurant where you may be enjoying a celebratory meal.

Enjoy the trip and happy birthday to your son.
