My hubby and I have been to Disney a few times and now we are taking our 14 yr foster chld who has never been and has no idea what is Disney is all about. Are there any special things that we can do with her that would make this trip more special?

    Hi Alisa,

It sounds like you are planning a wonderful trip, and I'm sure you'll create many special memories that will last a lifetime. First time visits are filled with excitement and wonder, just from visiting the parks, but there are a few special experiences that you might want to include.

Plan a special meal.  While she may be "too old" for character dining, she's certainly not too old to enjoy a wonderful meal.  If you want to go truly spectacular, take her to California Grill where you'll have a perfect view of the fireworks afterwards.  If that seems too fancy, try one of the many restaurants surrounding World Showcase in Epcot.  Teppan Edo, a hibachi style restaurant, is a favorite of my 14 year old son.

Find something to commemorate your visit.  There are relatively inexpensive keepsakes that you can purchase. Make it something that has special meaning for the three of you: special necklace, an ornament (yes, they sell ornaments 365 days a year in WDW), or a figurine of her favorite character.

Make sure you take in the shows.  Walt Disney World is all about spectacle, and they do it better than anyone I know.  The parades and shows are, in my opinion, the best part of a Disney vacation.

If she's a princess at heart, consider taking her to tea at the Grand Floridian. It's elegant and dainty, and provides a bit of a break from the crowds in the parks.

Above all, give her time to soak everything in.  It's not necessarily about riding all of the attractions at a speed that makes you exhausted, it's about enjoying your time together in a place where worries melt away.

Hope this helps.  Have a magical vacation!
