I am hoping to run the 2014 Half Marathon but I'm not a runner. I see that Disney recommends using the Galloway method for training. My training would have to be done entirely on my treadmill. What would that look like for a beginner using his method?

    Hi Ashley!

You may not be a runner, but let's add the word "YET" to that!  I think you will find that the run/walk/run, Jeff Gallolway method, will have you covering distance in no time!

This is a great question and I have just the answer!  I did all of my training for my first half marathon (2009 Disney Princess Half) on a treadmill.  While I will admit that it got to be a little boring at times, it worked and I finished the half and felt really good!  I do recommend having a television or something to watch for your longer runs later on.  I did all of mine watching NFL games in the winter!

You would follow the same Galloway plans that you would follow if you were running outside.  If I were you, I would go ahead and start doing some 30-45 minute run/walks now so that you will be ready to begin the training program when the time comes.  It doesn't matter how far you go, just get yourself used to being on your feet for long periods of time.  You can start with 30 second jog/ 30 second walk and then work up to whatever your goal is for intervals.  I like to do 3 minutes and 1 minutes, but you can make yours whatever you want.

I bought a Timex watch that has interval timing.  It will beep every time you need to switch and is easier than watching the clock.  There are also free "interval" apps on the iPhone you can download and then set to your preferred interval times.

I hope this helps!  Please let me know if I can help you in any other way.
