Hi, We are planning a last minute trip to WDW March 11-18 for our kids 3, 6, 7. It's our first time! We are able to stay off site for free but are torn whether we should experience a WDW resort and all the perks. What are the pros/cons and crowds like?

    Hi Charlotte!

The first trip to Disney is always incredible! Be sure to stop by Guest Relations & pick up "1st Visit" buttons for all of you.

My recommendation is to always stay on property if your budget allows & there are resorts to fit just about anyone's budget.  Disney is offering some great package deals right now but its hard to beat free. Here are some pros (there are many) to staying on property: 1) Get to feel the magic in the air 24 hours a day. 2) Can take advantage of Extra Magic Hours. 3) If you're flying into Orlando, you can take advantage of complimentary transportation via the Magical Express to get to your resort - the magic starts as soon as you land. 4) Complimentary transportation throughout the WDW resort. 5) Can take advantage of the Disney Dinning Plan. 6) Close to your room if your kids want to take a break from the parks during the day. 7) Cast Members are available 24/7 to assist you. 8) Wake up & go to bed at WDW!  Its just great fun to be a part of it all every waking minute!

I can't really think of a con other than saving money. I've got free accommodations anytime I'm in Orlando so I've stayed off property a lot & always feel the pull to be there the second I wake up. However, the money I save on a room, I apply towards doing other things I might not be otherwise be able to afford - there is a long list but here are a few examples: Pirates & Pals Fireworks Voyage; behind the scene tours (my favorite!); Cirque du Soleil; dinner shows; character meals & more souvenEARs.

There are some special events during your stay:  Atlanta Braves Spring Training at ESPN WWOS through the end of March; Mar. 12th - 14th Nat'l All Star Cheerleading Championships & the Flower & Garden Festival at Epcot which runs March 3rd - May 16th. While it won't be as crowded as peak season, you should expect average attendance. Whatever you decide your trip will be amazing!
