Hi, Me and my girlfriend are traveling for the first time in September. We are staying at All Star Movie resort but wondering if we should upgrade to New Orleans resort? What do you think? Also any tips for our first time we have the dining plan also.

    Hi Carlos!

Congratulations on the first of what hopes to be many Disney vacations for you!

For me, what differentiates staying at a Value Resort (All-Star Movies) from Moderate Resort (Port Orleans) is the price. Expect to pay anywhere from 20-30% more when upgrading from Value to Moderate. You'll find that each upgrade has additional amenities that the other doesn't. A few highlights of each include:

    Disney's All-Star Movies resort
This resort has a Disney movies theme, with buildings such as Toy Story, 101 Dalmatians, etc. Value rooms are not particularly big, but our family spend a lot of time at the Parks or resort pools, so it doesn't become much of an issue. If you are more than a family of 4, expect for space to be limited. There is a pretty large food court here, arcade, playground, and 2 pools.

Disney's Port Orleans resort (French Quarter or Riverside)
Port Orleans is moderate level, so expect the rooms to be bigger than All-Star Movies. Also offers arcade, playground, and pools (these pools have slides, something not at All-Star Movies). French Quarter has a food court, but its neighbor Riverside has a restaurant called Boatwright's as well as a food court.

All-Star Movies is primarily fun and kid-themed; while Port Orleans, in addition to fun, has some nice strokes of sophistication.

For Dining, use your plan based on your itinerary. For example, if you plan to do a lot of attractions one evening, you may go with a Quick Service for that evening over a Table Service, to maximize your time.

So, to summarize: If you're looking to enjoy everything Disney has to offer at a convenient price, go with All-Star Movies. But if you can afford to splurge a little, you won't be disappointed by upgrading to either French Quarter or Riverside at Port Orleans.

    Have a great time!
