    Amisha from ON Asked

Hi, I am booking our first Disney trip for May 2014. Before I book it I was wondering if I can change my resort(mostly upgrading) after booking it.

Hi Amisha! I'm delighted to hear you're planning your first trip to Walt Disney World. Get ready for a vacation like no other. This is a time to be excited so don't worry, you can absolutely alter an existing reservation. There are a few key things to understand about the process...

Changes to an existing reservation must me made at least 45 days before your arrival date to avoid paying penalty fees. From now until then, if you book your stay at a value priced Disney resort and then decide to upgrade to a moderate Disney resort you will pay the difference in the upgrade. The same is true if you alter your reservation and upgrade to a deluxe Disney resort. If you change your reservation to a comparable Disney resort there shouldn't be a change fee if you do so within that 45 day window.

However, if you downgrade your reservation from either a deluxe or moderate resort to a less expensive choice, you will incur a change fee. Once your initial reservation is booked, it can only be altered by a Disney Cast Member by calling (407) 939- 5277. They can also give you exact cost differences to expect with any changes you wish to make.

There are so many wonderful choices of resorts to stay at Walt Disney World, sure to fit your budget and needs. I hope this helps as you plan for your special first trip to the most magical place in the world.
