Hey! I am planning to visit Magic Kingdom with my daughter ages 6 and 5. Some of my friends told me that the Pirates of the Caribbean ride might be too scary for them! Is that true?

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel Ayesha!

Pirates of the Caribbean at the Magic Kingdom is one of my all-time favorite attractions at Disney World.  As much as I love this attraction, I would agree with your friends.  There are some elements of it that younger kids may find frightening.

You encounter skeletons of fallen pirates & a mermaid not long after your voyage begins. I've always told my boys that they're not real so that never frightened them. But soon after that you enter complete darkness & go down a waterfall. Its not huge - maybe 15 feet at the most - but because its in total darkness, it seems bigger.  For 1st time riders, it takes them completely by surprise. This kept my youngest son from riding it again for the next few trips to Disney. I always put my arms around my boys & tell them we're about to go for a fast ride & make sure they hear me giggle the whole way down.

After that you head into a foggy bay where Captain Barbossa is waging battle from a large pirate ship against a Caribbean Fort. The canon blasts are somewhat loud & the water effects simulating hits on the water are a little scary to some. There is the possibility you'll get a few drops of water on you.

After that, things lighten up a bit. You'll get a chance to sing along to "Yo Ho, Yo Ho, A Pirate's Life for Me". You'll also spot Captain Jack Sparrow in some of the scenes including the final scene which is a perfect ending to this pirate tale.

You know your daughters better than anyone & they may be thrill seekers at a young age. Talk to them & get their thoughts on it. If they seem hesitant, skip it. There are so many other great attractions for kids their ages & you can save it for your next trip.

Please feel free to visit with all of your planning questions.  We're hEAR for you! Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison
