hey guys, I am taking my mother, sister and nephew to disney in feb. And my mom can't stand very long as she has bad hips. because she can still walk and doesn't have a known disability. could she still use the disability card, and need proof from a doctor

    Hi, Kaitlyn!

I love to hear about families planning multi-generational trips to Walt Disney World Resort! There is so much to see and do for guests of all ages! For your mom I would recommend renting a wheelchair or electric scooter (ECV) because, in addition to standing in line at attractions and shows, there is a lot of ground to cover in the theme parks. Many guests don't realize that they'll be walking literally miles each day while at the parks. Having a wheelchair or scooter available will make things easier for your mom and help prevent hip pain and fatigue from setting in early on. Wheelchairs and scooters can be rented at each of the 4 theme parks and in the Downtown Disney Area or from a local private vendor. Follow this link for more information on wheelchair rentals and ECV rentals. I recommend renting a wheelchair rather than a scooter because wheelchairs are much easier to maneuver in the attraction queues and they don't need to be charged (since there's no motor).

The Disney Parks Disability Access Service (DAS) Card is designed to accommodate Guests who are unable to wait in a conventional queue due to a disability. However, a Guest whose disability is based on the necessity to use a wheelchair or scooter does not need a DAS Card. Disney does not require proof of disability (such as a note from a doctor) from a Guest in order to receive a DAS Card. (Requesting this type of documentation is actually a violation of the federal American with Disabilities Act). Guests may visit Guest Relations at any park to discuss their individual situation should they feel they need assistance due to a disability.
