Hey, Me and my family have been wanting to go on a Disney world vacation for a while. We r a pack of eight. So airplane tickets are EXPENSIVE! We want to drive.. But I can't think of activities to do.... The kids are 13, 11, 9, 7. Have any suggestions

    Hi Rachael,
Never fear...driving is definitely do-able and will save you a bundle of money!  I can tell you this from experience since we've driven several times with 2 kids at various ages, from toddlers to teens.

From Northern Pennsylvania, it takes us about 18 hours to get to Walt Disney World (breaks included).  One year I packed large 'baggies' with new activities for them to do every morning and afternoon.  Some of these activities included:
    - word searches, come geared to different ages
    - 'mad libs' (hilarious for the entire family!) - get them in your local magazine shop or bookstore
    - 'Klutz' activity books (hours of fun, and so many to chose from...everything from jewelery making to magic tricks to hands-on games, mazes and trivia...all can be done in the car)
    - coloring for the younger, and 'art posters' with markers for the older
    - car bingo, licence plate bingo
    - grab a new adventure book and take turns reading
    - books on CD (from the library)
    - magazines and comic books - available for all ages
    - give them each a map and/or triptik for them to follow along on the journey
    - travel-size games (mini versions of all the popular favorites like Battleship, Trouble, Connect-4)-find them at your local toy store
    - electronic hand-held games;  many can be played by 2 players
    - if you have a portable DVD system, bring a few movies

With the money you will save on the flights, consider buying a few games or books a little investment.  I always put these special car things away as soon as we got home, not to be seen again until the next trip.  It was like they were brand new all over again!

Rachael, treasure the drive with your family;  you will make memories you will remember forever!

Walt Disney World stole my heart when my parents introduced me to the magic the year it opened. I fondly remember my first 'Mickey Mouse in a Glass House' balloon! I still visit with my parents-and now with my husband and our two teens. Learn More About Lynn
