Is it helpful to park at Epcot in the morning and then just take the monorail over to Magic Kingdom rather than fight the crowds arriving and parking at MK? Or - does it help to arrive a couple of hrs past opening time?

    Laura,

The best way to get to the Magic Kingdom (MK) is by bus from a resort hotel, since the buses go directly to the MK entrance, whereas if you drive you need to park at the Transportation and Ticketing Center (TTC) and take the monorail from there.

If you are not staying at a Disney resort (I suspect that is your situation), then I think the best option is to drive directly to the TTC.  I have driven many times and have never felt like I was "fighting the crowds."  I don't think that parking at Epcot would be a good idea in most cases, since you would then need to take the monorail to the TTC and then transfer to the MK monorail.

I also don't think that arriving a couple of hours past opening time is a good strategy, since that is a relatively busy time for arrival (in general the first 2 hours at the parks tend to have lighter crowds, and they get more crowded from 10 am to noon).

We have found that the best time to arrive at the TTC is about 45-50 minutes before the MK opens.  Assuming you aren't there at a very busy time of year, you will likely find parking spaces available fairly close to the front and you can simply walk over to the TTC (no need to take the parking tram).

Hope that makes sense and helps you plan your transportation.  Let us know if you have further questions.
