Hello, We’ll be at Animal Kingdom on March 1st. I know it’s opening at 9am, but I’m wondering if they let people in before 9am like at Magic Kingdom (Main St opens at 8am), or only at 9am. Thanks!

Hello there, Melissa! Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel!

I am a huge fan of making early morning plans any time I am visiting Walt Disney World Resort. This type of planning allows my family to experience many popular attractions early in the day and leisurely explore the parks during the latter portion of our visit. Utilizing the “rope drop” strategy is actually how we were able to experience Avatar Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom just a couple months after the opening of Pandora - The World of Avatar

Prior to opening time, all theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort begin admitting Guests. In my experience, this tends to be approximately an hour before the actual opening time. Once Guests enter through the front gates, they are often able to explore the front portion of the theme park. Cast Members will be holding a rope across the areas that are not currently open hence where the term “rope drop” comes from! Disney’s Animal Kingdom allows Guests to explore the majority of Discovery Island before the official time of opening.

Pro Tip: If you would like to experience both Avatar Flight of Passage and Na’vi River Journey, try to reserve a FastPass+ for Na’vi River Journey during the early morning hours and utilize the early morning strategy to get in line for Avatar Flight of Passage. It can be a bit easier to get FastPass+ reservations for Na’vi River Journey and you definitively don’t want to miss out on the wait queue for Avatar Flight of Passage!

Hopefully this helps you in continuing to plan your trip!
