I hear you are somewhat of a budgeting expert. Can you tell me some of the best ways to plan a trip when finances are tight? Family vacations are a very important must-do!

Heather, I totally agree that family vacations are a must-do!  Even when finances are tight, it's important to take the time together as a family.  It's definitely possible to plan a Disney vacation on a budget.

First, I'd recommend looking at the Walt Disney World special offers.  Right now, there is a great special offer to get 3 free nights with the purchase of 4.  It's an amazing deal!  Disney's Value resorts are an affordable choice which offer the same benefits as other Disney resorts, such as Extra Magic Hours, Disney's Magical Express, and free transportation throughout Walt Disney World.

Next, think about how to get to Florida.  When I was growing up in Rhode Island, my family drove to Walt Disney World in an effort to save money.  If that's something your family can do, it's another way to cut costs.  If you do fly and stay on property, you can save money by skipping the rental car and using Disney's Magical Express for transporation to and from the airport, and Disney transportation for travel throughout Walt Disney World.

Then, consider choosing one of the Disney Dining Plans.  Using a dining plan is a great way to know what you are spending in advance.  The newest dining plan, the Quick Service Dining Plan, is a great value for families on a budget.

Finally, decide in advance what items you may need for your family.  One year, when we had 2 kids in diapers, I decided to ship diapers, wipes, and baby food from our home directly to the resort.  You could also choose to do a grocery delivery of essential items, such as snacks and water bottles.  Many families use www.gardengrocer.com.

I wish you the best of luck in finding an affordable solution for your family vacation!
