Hi Lynne, We're heading to WDW for our first family visit, and I'm wondering if you have any tips in regards to viewing shows and fireworks with three kids under the age of five. I don't want to miss them, but the kids get antsy!

    Hi Carolyn,

Welcome back to the Disney Parks Moms Panel and thank you for asking me a question!

Because little ones aren’t the most patient creatures, if seeing a parade or nighttime spectacular is important to you, I would recommend including them among your FastPass+ selections, if available. Do anything you can to cut down on waiting around in order to avoid meltdowns. There are also special experiences such as FerryTale Wishes: A Fireworks Dessert Cruise that could be option for your family, but they can be pricey, especially for a family of 5.

My little guy’s favourite fireworks show is IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth at Epcot. Although the part in the middle can get a little bit slow due to the fact that there are no fireworks, my little guy loves the close-up view of the fireworks when they do light the night sky! Plus, we can usually walk right up to a spot along World Showcase Lagoon right next to Germany, less than 15 minutes before showtime. If your youngest is startled by loud noises, don't forget to bring some noise cancelling headphones!

Because you’re from British Columbia, the good news is that the 3-hour time difference will actually work in your favour when it comes to nighttime shows. I usually shift my little guy's schedule by 2-3 hours with a later nap in order to ensure that he's happy and well rested in spite of our later nights. Try to keep your kids on the same or similar nap/bed schedule as they have at home, only follow what the times would be in BC rather than in Florida. That way, late nights won’t seem so late to them (and you'll recover from jet lag more easily when you return).

    Have a Magical Day,
