I am heading down with my wife and child (19months). this is not our first time by anymeans, but never stayed at the villas at fort wilderness before. What is the convenience of getting around as far as the ferry to the mk, and busses are they nearby?

    Christopher:

I'm not sure if you are staying at the Wilderness Lodge Vacation Villas or the Fort Wilderness cabins....both offer ferries but your clue of the buses leads me to think you're talking about the fort's internal buses....

With that in mind, there are two sets of buses at the fort: internal and external.  Whether you're headed to the Settlement beach and on to Magic Kingdom by ferry or to the Outpost where the buses will take you to the parks, you'll probably opt to take an internal bus to get there.  The internal bus stops are located near the front of every cabin "loop" (road) and I know of none that are more than a 5-minute walk from a cabin.

But don't let the internal/external bus thing throw you a curve ball.  In my opinion, if you stayed at a resort, you'd probably have a longer stroll to its buses than you will to the fort's internal buses...the only hassle is that you cannot keep a child in a stroller on the bus, so transferring from one bus to the other can be a pain to some.  (You'll see some folks who will rent golf carts to give them more freedom than waiting on the internal buses, but at a cost of around $54 a day, I don't think they're worth it if this would be your only use.)

If it's of great concern, you can always call Disney with your confirmation number and ask them to put a note on your reservation requesting a cabin nearer an internal bus stop or the 2800 loop which is about a 10-minute walk to the Outpost and its nearest cabin loop.  Disney can't guarantee requests, but this can shave off some of your time.

Our family are big fans of the fort, and I think you'll come away with good memories.

    Wishing y'all a magical vacation!

My family of 6 appreciates Disney's value! Although Ft. Wilderness is our second home, we've enjoyed the resorts for business, reunions and romantic getaways. For me, Disney also means dining: last count, I'd eaten at 55 restaurants around the World! Learn More About Whitney
