We're headed to Disney World in April and just noticed the Star Wars half marathon is going on while we're there. Will this be at a certain park? We don't want to use a ticket for a specific park if that day will be busier due to the race.

    Hi Amanda ~

Your trip will be here before you know it and I bet you are getting more excited by the day!

The Star Wars Half Marathon - The Darkside weekend is scheduled for April 19 - 22, 2018. There will be races on April 20 - 22, 2018 and the runDisney Health & Fitness Expo will take place on April 19 - 21, 2018.

The 2017 courses for the 10K and half-marathon began in the Magic Kingdom parking lot and ended at Epcot. The 5K course was at Epcot. There is a lot of construction going on at the Walt Disney World Resort right now so these courses could change. If they stay the same for the 2018 races, I personally would avoid Epcot. A lot of runners will go into Epcot at the end of their run. It is a popular post-run park since the courses ended there. Having said that, when we run, we often avoid Epcot for that same reason and go to another park.

Here are some things I would recommend when visiting that weekend:

    * Stay at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel to have access to Extra Magic Hours.
    * Purchase your theme park tickets in advance so that you can make Disney FastPass+ service selections prior to your trip. Guests staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel can start making FastPass+ selections 60 days in advance.
    * Make Advanced Dining Reservations. These can be made be made up to 180 days prior to your trip.
    * Download the My Disney Experience mobile app.
    * Select your 3 "must dos" in each theme park you plan to visit and make those your priority.
    * Plan to eat an early lunch and dinner to avoid the crowds.
    * If you plan to park hop, take advantage of Disney's Express Transportation to save time when traveling between parks.
    * Make a fireworks dessert party reservation one night to get a great view of Happily Ever After at the Magic Kingdom.

Wishing you minnie magical memories :-) Allison V.
