Headed to Disney in October, first time for our kids, ages 4 and 6. Looking at resorts Art of Animation, Little Mermaid room, or Port Orleans Riverside? What are pros/cons of each resort?

Hi Nancy!  The good news is, I think you will enjoy your vacation at either resort so try not to stress about it too  much.  Here are a few things to consider:

Room location.  The Little Mermaid section at Art of Animation (AoA) is the furthest from the main building which contains the food court, gift shop and is also near the bus depot.  However, when staying at Port Orleans Riverside (POR), you could also have a long walk to the main building depending on where your room is.  There are multiple bus depots at POR so that shouldn't be an issue.

Pool. With children, the pool is important.  If your children like water slides, you'll want to choose POR.  Value resorts, including AoA, do not have water slides at their pools.  However, AoA has a cool feature in their main pool with underwater speakers.

Food court.  Both locations have a food court so this should not be a factor.

Atmosphere.  To me, the value resorts scream FUN when on a vacation.  The larger than life icons make for some great photo opportunities.  POR is a more peaceful, serene resort where you'll see bunny rabbits hopping through the landscape as you walk through the resort.  The POR atmosphere is more laid back, it almost reminds me of the Polynesian.

Rooms.  The rooms at POR are larger than a standard room at AoA.  Additionally the beds are bigger - queen sized at POR; double sized at a standard AoA room.

Cost.  Because AoA is a value resort, the standard rooms will be less than a room at POR.

Bottom line, I think it comes down to your budget, room size and the pool.  I hope this helps with your decision.  If you need additional help, just let us know!
