Mom And Son On Run

I am going to be 40 this Halloween and the one thing I want (and have wanted for 32 years) is to go to Disney World. The thing is I'm on SSDI because of some health problems. How do I make my dream come true on such a low fixed income?

Hi Christine!  What a great present this would be to yourself!

Since you are from Maine, we need to first get you to Disney!  If you are thinking of flying, I would recommend downloading DING from Southwest.com.  This desktop application will alert you of any specials that meet the criteria in your setup.  If you fly, you can use the Magical Express Transportation system - it's available to Walt Disney World resort guests at no additional cost.

Next, you'll need to keep an eye on discounts.  I would focus on disneyworld.com and mousesavers.com for any possible discounts.  If you aren't familiar with mousesavers, you can sign up for a newsletter and receive hot deals right to your inbox.

Hopefully you'll be able to find a good rate at one of Disney's value resorts.  Depending on your budget, you may also need to consider staying off site.  You may want to research hotels.com to see what's in the area - just make sure you read the ratings.  The downside is you might need a rental car to get to the parks so you'll need to factor that cost in.

Finally,  the good news is if you'll be at Disney on your actual birthday, you can take advantage of free admission.  You can read all about the birthday celebration here.

I do hope your wish comes true.  If you have specific questions we can help you with, please let us know!  Diane
