Greetings! What are the age restrictions for kids to do things (hang out, park hop) without mom and dad while on staying on property? Can we leave our 11 y/o with our 16- and 14-y/o while we enjoy a romantic dinner at Victoria and Albert's? Thanks!

    Hi Jennifer!

Welcome to the Disney Parks Moms Panel! Thanks for dropping by and asking a question!

Since my girls just entered that teenager realm, I feel like we are in a whole new world. So I actually looked up the property rules to be sure we knew when we could let them explore on their own. According to the current property rules, children under 14-years old must be accompanied by a guest 14-years old or over to enter Magic Kingdom, Disney's Hollywood Studios, Disney's Animal Kingdom, EPCOT, Disney's Typhoon Lagoon Water Park, Disney's Blizzard Beach Water Park, or the NBA Experience at Disney Springs. Note that a parent or guardian must sign a waiver for guests under age 18 to enter the NBA Experience at Disney Springs. Although there are other childcare options for children under 12-years old, it sounds like you may prefer that your oldest two children keep an eye on the younger one.

Since you are planning to stay on property at a Walt Disney World Resort Hotel and you do entrust them to visit a theme park while you enjoy dinner at Victoria & Albert's, I also suggest that at least your oldest teenager have MagicBand charging privileges. On our last trip, our girls had charging privileges and they were quite excited to do a little shopping on their own. Of course, we established some clear spending limits, but it was a nice touch of independence while we were in the parks.

Since the unexpected can happen, I also suggest that they spend their time at Magic Kingdom since Victoria & Albert's is at Disney's Grand Floridian Resort & Spa so that you would be close should you need to reach them quickly. And, although we have never been asked to show identification for our girls, because I am an educator, I always suggest that older teens have some form of identification on them, like a state issued driver's license, if they have one!

Jennifer, I am sending pixie dust your way as you plan for a lovely romantic evening. If you are celebrating a special moment, consider ordering a surprise from Disney Floral & Gifts. Although I am usually on a pretty strict budget, I will never forget our girls' reactions when they walked into Cinderella's Royal Table and saw princess balloons on the table just for them. It was such a priceless moment!

    Magic and memories,
