Hi Moms, great forum, i've learnt so much for help planning my Sept trip to WDW. I am staying in the Poly with my 2 daughters (6&10), not 100% sure about all dining decisions yet, can we have breakfast anywhere within the resort without a reservation?

I’m so glad that you’ve found the WDW Moms Panel helpful.

You should be able to eat at the often overlooked Kona Café without an Advance Dining Reservation as long as it’s not during the breakfast rush for the Tonga Toast. Then again, you’ll notice on some mornings that your fellow travelers are rushing to the parks, leaving the Kona Café empty and quiet.

Since the Polynesian is connected via monorail to the Magic Kingdom, I’ve found this typical on Magic Kingdom Extra Magic Hour mornings. If you are going to a different park that day, you should be able to enjoy a leisurely breakfast while everyone else heads for the monorail. September is typically a slower time at Walt Disney World. Perhaps you can make a note of the crowd at Kona’s (or lack of) on your first morning and if it is crowded, call Guest Services and make a reservation for another morning. I really don’t recall ever walking by this restaurant and seeing a wait (except maybe at dinner time).

The exception would be for character meals. It is unlikely that you would be able to walk up to Ohana’s for a walk-in seating. Lilo and Stitch keep pretty busy at this restaurant.

For a quick bite, try Captain Cook’s Snack Company also in the Great Ceremonial House. Usually open 6:30-10:30 a.m. you can dine in, outside or take it back to your room. Sometimes multi-tasking (getting ready for your day and eating breakfast in the room) will help get you to the parks by opening time. If you want to linger, the outdoor seating is pleasant with tables, umbrellas and chairs.

Don’t forget that you can also monorail to the Grand Floridian and Contemporary resorts for more dining choices. For an adventurous morning, boat over to the Wilderness Lodge.

I wish you and your daughters a wonderful stay at the Polynesian Resort. Aloha!
