We are grandparents, first time visitors, with grandchildren, 9 & 12. We are coming 12/26/11 - 12/31/11. We are staying at the Orleans resort, we have no idea where to start, what are hopper pases, etc., how do we go from one place to the next , HELP!

    Hi Carole,

How wonderful to be planning your first Disney vacation with your grandchildren! You are sure to make memories together that will last a lifetime.

If you only plan on visiting one theme park per day, you want to purchase the Base ticket. If want to visit more than one park per day, you will need to upgrade to a Park Hopper pass. This will allow you to "hop" from one park to the next in the same day. However, since this is your first visit and you are traveling during a very busy time, you may want to just stick with one park a day. You can save the money to use towards souvenirs instead. There is so much to see and do in each park, you really don't need to hop.

If you are using Disney transportation, you can get from one place to the next via bus, boat or monorail. The transporation system is quite extensive, so your best bet is to stop by your guest services / concierge desk at your resort to have them help you figure out the best way each day depending on where you are going. For example, from the Port Orleans resort, you will take a bus to all of the theme parks. If you are hopping from the Magic Kingdom to Epcot, you will take a monorail. You can take a boat from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney to do some shopping. You should always give yourself at least an hour to get from one place to the next using the buses. This is because they come approximately every 20 minutes and you never know if you've just missed one, or if one is coming around the bend.

Have you made reservations for dining at all? It may be difficult to get seating, but you can always try to get a table by walking up. Call 407-WDW-DINE to see if anything is available.

I'm out of room, but I'd love to help you more with any questions you have. Simply send me any follow-up questions you may have. Have a wonderful vacation,
