I am a grandmother taking my 11 year old grandson for the first time. I am overwhemled ...where do I start planning? I have 1 week to pull this together for him. HELP

    Hi Mary,

I can understand how planning a young man's first Disney adventure can feel overwhelming, but relax!  You're taking him to the most magical place on earth so you really can't go wrong.  You'll already be a hero in his eyes.  He is quite lucky to have such a thoughtful grandmother.

If you haven't done so already, choose which Disney resort most appeals to you and then book your reservation either with Disney directly or through an experienced travel agent.  Then decide whether you'd like to buy Magic Your Way base tickets or park-hoppers.  Since this is your grandson's first trip to Walt Disney World, you'll find plenty to do in each theme park to fill an entire day so you probably won't require the park-hopper tickets.

Then decide if a Disney Dining Plan is for you.  Personally, I have found this is a great way to control my food budget while at Walt Disney World.  The most cost effective is the quick service dining plan, but we typically choose the regular dining plan, which includes one quick service meal, one table service meal, and a snack per person each day.  Plan to attend at least one character meal with your grandson as these are special experiences that will allow him to interact with Mickey and friends.  Call (407) WDW-DINE to book table service meals in advance.

I have plenty of additional suggestions for you to make your grandson's trip to Walt Disney World special since I have an eleven-year-old son, so don't hesitate to post more questions directed specifically to me if you need any more assistance.

    Have a magical trip!
