My grandchildren who i have not seen in a few years are going on Disney Cruise out of Port Canaveral August 18. They are taking shuttle from hotel near Orlando airport. If i drive to Port, is there any period of time i can visit with them before they sail?

Welcome aboard, Marleen! I bet you are very excited for your grandchildren to get to experience all of the fun and magic in store with Disney Cruise Line! I only wish you were sailing with them!

As long as your family arrives early enough in the morning, and waits for you before they head into the port terminal where they'll have to go through security, I don't see why you couldn't meet up with them outside the terminal for a quick visit!

The Disney Cruise Terminal at Port Canaveral is Port Terminal Eight, so park nearby. Normally, guests park there and leave their cars while they are on their cruise, so you might want to call the port just to ensure that you can easily park for an hour or so. I don't think it would be a problem at all, but in case you want to check, I found that the Canaveral Port Authority can be reached at 321-783-7831. They might be able to provide you with more details on short term parking and specifics about accessible areas for guests.

Be sure to have a cell phone to contact them as they reach the port. It can be very crowded, so you'll want to ensure you coordinate a meeting spot outside before they get through security to check in. As long as they plan to be checked-in inside the terminal by 1:00 or 2:00, they will be fine! In fact, they'll most likely be able to board the ship faster without all the crowds if they wait until then. When boarding first opens, it's very crowded, but by about 1:00 or 2:00 the crowds will have thinned out for them to board.

Alternately, perhaps you could arrange to meet up with your family as they arrive back at the port after disembarkation. If they don't already have transportation arranged back to the airport, you could pick them up right at the port and stop for lunch nearby before heading to the airport!

I hope that information helps, Marleen!
