What are the good places to eat with a picky child?

    Hi, Codi!

Not to worry! I had a very picky child when we first started traveling to Walt Disney World. In fact, I credit our dining experiences with helping that picky eater to broaden her culinary horizons due to the availability of some scrumptious options that she just couldn't help refuse (they looked and smelled so good!)

First, consider hitting buffets in WDW; there will always be a kid-friendly area, which features favorites such as mac-n-cheese, chicken fingers, pizza and other favorites. However, because there is so much food available, in many varieties, at the adult area, your little one will be able to SEE what the options look like before having to decide if he or she would like to try it. I often helped our daughter fill her own plate of items she likes and then added sample-sized portions of anything she said looked yummy, such as fruit, salad, an adult entree or side or even an interesting type of bread. If she didn't like it, no harm done.

Next, make a list of your child's favorite foods and go onto WDW's website and look at restaurants that interest you, either due to itinerary or food offerings. Then, take a look at the kids' menu for that particular restaurant, to see if there is something your child will enjoy there as well. Keep in mind that many Table-Service locations will be able to "hold the sauce" or some other item which spoils an otherwise perfect order for your picky eater. If a basic staple can be added (i.e. butter on the pasta instead of a tomato-based sauce), just ask for it to be served as such.

We've found that servers are very willing to help Guests accommodate cautious eaters, so just be sure to do a little research and ask as soon as you are seated. You might even add a dish or two to your little one's culinary repertoire on this trip!

Best wishes for a fantastic trip, Codi! Be sure to send more questions as you think of them, too. We love to help!
