Good morning, we were thinking of taking our first Disney vacation as a family. Dec. 2013. Our children will be 6, 4, and 1.5. I do not even know where to start my planning for a budget and kid friendly vacation?

    Hi, Mike!

Wow! What an exciting time this is for you; planning your first family trip to Walt Disney World, during the holidays, with three little ones who are sure to magnify the magic of every moment you're there. Wow!

The place to begin your planning, really, is at Disneyworld.com. Right on the home page, you'll find the option to "Price Your Vacation." Enter the dates of your stay, number in your party and leave the option to search "All Resorts" in place. This will enable you to see the range of pricing available to a party of 5, from fun-filled Value Resorts to Ultra-luxurious Villas. Adding the cost of park passes and a Dining Plan (if desired)  will be similar no matter which resort you select, so the biggest determining factor on budget is accommodations.

On that same site, you can select "Vacation Packages" as well, which will allow you to get a price for everything at once. This is convenient for the first-time planner, as all of the details are already taken care of for you. The resorts you'll be shown will accommodate 5 Guests, so if you notice that a particular resort is not listed, it may be because their rooms only sleep 4. Options in these packages may include Magic Your Way Base Tickets for the length of stay as well as vouchers for savings on mini golf, Planet Hollywood, etc. Adding on the Park Hopper Option and Dining Plan will, of course, add to your total cost, but I recommend that you click on those options just to see how much more you'll be adding by selecting them. In my opinion, you can do without the Park Hopper Option to save money, just be sure to plan your days accordingly. A Dining Plan may save you money, too, especially if you intend on eating two meals a day in a park or at your resort.

Send more questions as you think of them, Mike. I'd love to walk you through the planning stages of this most magical trip for your family! :-)
