What are fun activities I can do with my 7 year old at Disney Resort when we are not going to a park?

Hi Donna! I understand the difficulty in sometimes making that age child happy since I have a 6 1/2 year old grandson that I just took on an Adventure By Disney trip out west. They want to do it all but sometimes aren't quite old enough to tackle the big fun!

Disney does offer a lot when families choose not to be in a park. Beyond the resort pools you can rent water craft and head to one of the Disney lakes on a Sea Raycer for some fun. That age child will need to go with an adult but you will have lots of laughs together. If the seven year old likes to fish you can hire a guide for a two hour jaunt or head to Fort Wilderness and enjoy fishing from the canals. Equipment can be rented there. Fort Wilderness is a great place to spend several hours. On certain days you can take an archery lesson or rent canoes and take a ride into the back areas for about an hour. Although you must be nine to take the horseback rides you can have your seven year old enjoy a pony ride located next to Pioneer Hall. While you are there be sure and visit the stables next door where all the Disney horses live!

Downtown Disney is a huge playground of fun and this goes beyond the shopping that moms usually love. The Lego store has a large area outdoors where kids can build and play with their creations. Disney Quest is down from there and a multi level building full of interactive activities. There is an extra charge for this.  The AMC movie theater is always offering the latest releases and you can check on a Fork and Screen showing where you can enjoy lunch or dinner while you watch.

Resort hopping is a fun way to see all the other resort options on property or you can take in some time at ESPN Wide World of Sports if that is an interest. There is always something good happening there whether it be on the fields or in the fieldhouses. As you can see it isn't hard to find fun things to do beyond the parks while on vacation at Walt Disney World!
